Le Bistrot revisited

In French on August 26, 2011 at 10:30 pm

Le Bistrot has always been one of those places that we have always wanted to bring Pak Law to. Both G and I think the world of this place, with its simple classic French fare, and figured that it might just strike a chord with Pak Law and maybe even inspire his cooking. So when Pak Law mentioned that he would like to head out for dinner last Saturday and left the place to my recommendation, I promptly made a reservation for four at Le Bistrot!

Absinthe

In French on April 2, 2011 at 5:55 pm

Absinthe. Known to most as a highly intoxicating spirit with the keen ability to elicit one to experience the green fairy. To me, Absinthe now brings to mind a cosy modern french restaurant, serving up some delicate cuisine, deeply influenced by Chef Francois’ roots in the south of France. I have to thank the good folks behind the Singapore Restaurant Week and my fab sis for getting us a table, else this girl would still be ignorant of the other green fairy experience and that is french cuisine by Absinthe.

L’Entrecôte

In French on March 11, 2011 at 10:49 pm

Inspired by the Paris institution Le Relais de Venise – L’Entrecôte, the Parisian-style french bistro up at Duxton Hill has flourished in pretty much the same way its French predecessor has since its opening, despite only serving one main. Kudos definitely go out to the management for truly transforming the place like that of a classic French bistro, from the cosy table arrangements to the minimalist deco and professional service staff. I was quite taken purely just by walking into the place, for it felt like I just landed in Paris!

Le Bistrot

In French on December 30, 2010 at 10:50 pm

Two more days till the start of a brand new year and I thought it would be nice to conclude 2010 with a couple of posts highlighting some of my favorite bits of the year. It is going to be quite a challenge to pack all that I have in before the year runs out, but I am sure gonna give it my best shot, starting with my personal favorite dining discovery this year – Le Bistrot. Tucked in a nice quaint corner at the Indoor Stadium, Le Bistrot is outfitted in chic modern Parisian style, exuding a quiet but confident presence in the area.

Private Affairs

In French on December 12, 2010 at 9:23 pm

It was one late rainy tuesday evening a good six to eight months back that g and I first noticed this retro-fitted joo chiat shophouse with a huge signage out front reading ‘Private Affairs’. Like all good curious Singaporeans, we had to go kay-poh so we crossed the road after our teochew porridge dinner just to check out what private affairs was all about. I wasn’t  too impressed at first glance as the place looked dark and as it had yet to open, it was really quite hard to judge the potential of the place. Fast forward several months, and Private Affairs has established itself very quickly with quite a number of raves and reviews (epicure magazine rates them as serving up one of Singapore’s top 10 best lobster bisques!) but to be honest, it was the recent run in with a blogger that caught my attention and I told myself, I really had to eat at this place to find out what the hype was all about!

Nicolas

In French on October 8, 2010 at 10:53 pm

Hidden along Keong Siak Road is Chef Nicolas Joanny’s brainchild – Nicolas Le Restaurant. It wasn’t only until recently that I heard about Nicolas and immediately thought it was one of the newer kids on the block, spotting a not quite yet established presence on the media radar. Turns out that it was quite the opposite as Nicolas is helmed by Chef Joanny who is a very established world gourmet rated chef and has created a quiet but significant french gourmet footprint here in Singapore. It being the month of October (the month of celebrations at least according to me!), I had the opportunity to be spoiled rotten just last week at Nicolas.
